Scarlett was so shocked she was stupefied. Her mind went blank for a couple of minutes. When she regained her senses, she became furious and was lost for words. She stared at the producer as if intending to kill him with her eyes. If looks could kill then the producer would have died at that very moment.
Not minding the fact that the Conference was still going on, she rose to her feet and stomped her way out of the conference room all eyes were on her.
Everyone who came for that conference was expecting the name Scarlett Pearce to be mentioned as the first female lead of the movie only to get the surprise of the decade.
For the first time in a movie that Scarlett showed interest in, she was not picked immediately as the female lead. They were all waiting to see who they would present to them at the end of the day.

Scarlett reached home, and in a fit of rage, she trashed the house breaking everything breakable.
Her agent Darcy, approached her saw how ruined the apartment was, and drew in a deep breath. She had never thought that the woman she had worked with would throw such a tantrum just because she was not given what she thought was hers when she was expecting it.
"Scarlett!" Darcy called.
For a moment Scarlett froze not expecting to have anyone else in the room with her. When she knew it was her agent she decided to act pitifully. Any who saw how hurt she looked would never blame her for what she had just done.
Her agent knew that she was hurt by the announcement so feigning hurt and blaming her tantrum on that was not a bad idea as it was not entirely wrong.
She turned to face Darcy with tears in her eyes. "Did I do something wrong? Why would they just say something like that, don't they know how bad it will hurt?" Scarlett cried.
" It's OK What the producer said was that it is still undecided not that you have been rejected and denied the role. All you have to do now is wait and see what they will do". Darcy said trying to provide a little hope for the girl.
"What if they don't give the role to me, then what?" Scarlett yelled getting angry all over again.
What was wrong with this agent of hers? This was something that had never happened before and here she was telling her that it was OK. Does she not know that what happened earlier had already brought a slight stain on her reputation? What happened there had made her lose face already.
What would her fans think of her now? In each movie that she starred in, she was always picked out as the female lead without second thoughts but today that has already happened. What if it affects her next movie which she was meant to star in as the female lead?
She could not let happen. She has to do whatever it would take to secure that role. She has been at the top for four straight years, she was not going to let some bad luck get to her now. If the current movie was not going to work out then the next one has to be her jackpot. It was the biggest movie of the year. If she can secure the leading role there, then she would be safe from mockery and her fans won't be mad.
Turning to Darcy she ordered, "Contact the director of the movie 'Dreams', I want everything ready and..." While she was talking Darcy's phone rang and stopped her from continuing her talk.
Darcy looked at the phone screen and saw that it was from one of the crew members of the movie 'Dreams' which they were just talking about. She slid her finger on the receiver button and put the phone on loudspeaker.
"Hello?" Darcy said after answering the call.
"Hello, Ms. Darcy. I am calling to you updated on the latest happenings about 'Dreams". The voice said on the phone.
Immediately Scarlett heard that she was hopeful, thinking that they had called her to tell her that she had been chosen. She looked at Darcy who looked back at her and she nodded for her to proceed.
"Oh... Okay, what about it?" Darcy asked having a bad feeling deep down inside her.
"I am sorry to inform you, but the two female leads have been chosen already but you and your client can come for an audition for any other role".
Right after hearing those words, Darcy started sweating as she felt the woman behind her staring dangerously at her.
Hurriedly she asked, "What do you mean? My client has been promised the lead role already so what happened?"
"Sorry ma'am, but our investor is against your client so someone else was chosen".
"Investor? Who is the investor?" Scarlett yelled at the phone.
"I don't know ma'am. He is still unknown but he invested a huge sum of money for the movie and asked that Miss Pearce's name be removed".
"How can you people do such a thing without even knowing who invested?" Scarlett said unable to control her anger anymore.
"Digging out such information is not in my place. I just called to keep you informed as you have asked of me". The voice said politely not knowing who he was speaking to.
Before Scarlett could say any more the call was disconnected. Scarlett gritted her teeth, clenched her fist, and trashed what was left in the apartment. She even went to the windows and pulled down the curtains in anger.
Darcy watched the whole scene standing rooted in her place. She did not know what had gone wrong. She did not even bother to stop Scarlett from destroying the apartment.
She was snapped back to her senses when Scarlett yelled out in frustration. Her words caught her attention.
"I knew that woman coming back would bring nothing but bad luck"
"Which woman?" Darcy suddenly asked. Then and only then did Scarlett realize that she had said those words out loud.
"No one important ". She said and left the apartment leaving the poor agent alone to her thoughts.
"where are you going then?" Darcy asked before she was out of sight.
"I need to visit a few people. Don't follow me." Scarlett replied and stepped into the elevator.
