Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

After the working hours were over, Melody was picked up by Abigail as agreed and together they left Starlight Industries. At their home, Melody asked Abigail to take a turn at the amusement park.

The amusement park was a place where she had made a lot of memories both with her parents and with her friends. The amusement park was the first place that her father and mother took her when she was little.

She continued visiting the place even after she was older. She visits there with her friends regularly even while in college.

Her reason for visiting the amusement park now was to relive the memories she once had with her parents in her childhood. Each time she visited this place in the past, she always felt closer to her parents and that was what she needed right now.

Although going there would also remind her of her pain, she was willing to bear it. After all, life is bitter-sweet and she has learned the hard way that life brings both happiness and pain.

The ride to the amusement park was silent as Melody was deep in thought. Soon the car came to a stop and Abigail informed her that they had arrived. "We are here Melody". She said snapping Melody out of her train of thought.

Once recovered her composure, she looked out the window and confirmed that they had arrived she gave a nod to Abigail before verbally showing her gratitude, " Thank you, Abigail, for bringing me" She said and Abigail nodded and came out of the car to open the door for her.

Melody stepped out of the car and looked at the place that held a lot of her memories within it. She looked in the distance and saw the Ferris wheel with a few people on it and not so far from her was a pink and white colored cotton candy booth.

She looked around and saw almost everything was still as she remembered it in her memories. She walked to the candy booth to buy one for herself and was closely followed by Abigail from behind.

On reaching the booth, she bought two cherry-flavored cotton candies. Handing one of them to Abigail who wordlessly took it in her hands. Staring at the candy and then at Melody for a couple of seconds, she opened her mouth to say something but closed it right after and it didn't go unnoticed by Melody.

"Is there something that you wish to ask me?" Melody asked.

Abigail shook her head at first but then nodded to her but still said nothing to her. Raising a brow of askance Melody waited but still, nothing was coming so she asked instead.

"Do you want to know why I came here?" Melody asked and she was sure that she guessed it right seeing the slight yet almost invisible change in Abigail's expression.

Abigail shook her head and said, "I do not wish to interfere with your personal life unless you are willing to share it with me".

"But we are friends aren't we?" Melody asked.

"Yes, we are, but you are also my boss. I can't poke my nose where it is not needed". She replied and Melody chuckled before taking her steps towards the Ferris wheel.

"I used to come when I was little with my parents. Though not regularly seeing as they were always busy, whenever they had the time they would always bring me here. We would buy almost every kind of candy we could find, my parents' favorite was always the cherry-flavored cotton candy". She said with a smile.

Though she was walking in the direction of the Ferris wheel, her eyes were looking beyond it. Into the space. Abigail listened to her, she kept quiet not interrupting her so she could continue which she did.

"We used to ride on the Ferris wheel together. Even when I grew up and they could no longer accompany me here anymore like they used to do, I will come here with my friends from university."

"Now this place has become a part of me. The memories here can never be forgotten, and I will always remember them because the people whom I hold dear to my heart are a very significant part of it". She concluded.

A lone tear rushed down her cheek followed by another as memories of her happy days flashed in her mind. Taking her time she slowly wiped off the two drops of tears and turned to give a smile to Abigail who reciprocated with a reassuring and comforting smile of her own.

"It's like you said, the memories will never be forgotten because the memories we share with our loved ones will always be engraved in our hearts no matter what happens after them". Abigail said. Melody stopped and turned to her without saying a word. Looking at her like that, Abigail thought to say more.

"The hard times will never be forgotten either, but, they will always come. The purpose of their coming is to teach us and tell us the kind of people we should trust. We must learn from them, and be more watchful of those we allow getting close to us".

"Our past started happily and we lived it that way until the hard times came and we cruelly learned the hard reality but the bright side of it is that we have learned our lessons".

"If things didn't happen as they did, we may never have met each other but here we are today, two broken women working together. I stand here now to promise you that no matter what happens, I will always be there to have your back not because I work for you, but because I know and understand what you have been through". Abigail concluded with a very genuine smile on her lips.

All Melody could do after seeing how sincere Abigail was at the moment was to give a nod and smile broadly. "Thank you, for understanding me". Melody said and Abigail nodded with a smile. And they resumed their steps toward the Ferris wheel again with a lifted mood.

When almost approaching the wheel, Melody caught sight of someone who turned her mood sour once again and halted her steps. Abigail didn't fail to notice the change and strained her eyes to see who or what must have ruined the mood.

And there she found Gale standing right in front of the Ferris wheel with his hands tucked inside his pants' pockets.
