Chapter 15 - Episode 15: Promise Of The Stars

"What is it that you want?" Harland relented, arguing with her more would only cause him to lose.

"Simple. Let us go."

He frowned as he walked back to his chair, Luna walking away from that same chair.

Of course, even if she can get away easily, she wouldn't want to get close to this person at all. She is disgusted with the royal family to the core. Much more than her friends.

"We will leave the kingdom and you won't follow us. As simple as that," Luna suggested.

Harland furrowed his brows. Letting them leave is easy, but why can't he follow them? Them being around means that the people of their kingdom will continue on worshiping them.

Isn't that the reason why he wished them dead?

Luna smirked. She could clearly tell what he was thinking about.

Letting them leave is easy but he can't let them continue on living for the people will keep on worshiping them every single time they will meet them. And that means the attention of the people will be halved.

As the attention seeker type of people they are, Luna knew that this person hates that. And of course, the easiest way to take out competitors is to have them gone.

Death.

Harland massaged his temple as if this was a difficult decision to make.

"We can do that… but to send you away."

"Please, your majesty, can we drop the act? You tried to kill us already, why act like it was too sad for you to let us leave the kingdom?" Luna laughed at his hypocrisy.

The look of feeling bad instantly disappeared from Harland's face.

"I can imprison you for treason," he warned.

"Then while we wait for the guards. Why don't we enjoy the recording with the people of the kingdom?" she asked back.

Harland gritted his teeth, his desire to kill her rising as he continued talking to her.

Luna smirked, "Let us leave and we will be out of your hair."

"Fine. Leave!! And never come back!!!" he harrumphed.

"Ah no, it is not that easy. I mean we don't want anyone following us after all."

"I won't!! I will not send anyone after you," he waved his hand as if shooing her away.

"It is so easy for you to lie, seriously. But do you know, your majesty? Your greed can never be hidden. Send us away but despite your words, you can just go and make your knights and those jealous adventurers follow us."

"You!!! I will not!!!" he was almost screaming.

Luna raised her brow, "Fine. Then let us promise."

Harland turned red in rage, "Just how much more childish could you get? I promise, okay?!? Is that enough?!?"

He felt like he was about to lose his mind.

Luna actually dared to laugh.

Harland was trembling all over, his nails digging at his skin as he clenched his hands into fists, trying his best not to attack her.

"Ah, please I don't want those simple promise words you just spouted."

She played around with the black orb in her hand, "Instead, what I need is the promise of the stars."

Harland stared blankly at her for a good while.

"The promise of the… stars?"

Luna smiled meaningfully after seeing his reaction.

It seems that this vow is as powerful as ever at this time.

This vow isn't a simple promise and everything will be left to the people involved if the promise will be upheld or not.

This promise will be a very powerful one between people with abilities.

The mana of the abilities comes from the stars. And so, vowing with the stars as the medium, makes it even more powerful and would ensure each person that the vow will be upheld.

Because forfeiting the promise meant that you are also forfeiting your power.

Once you ignore the promise then your ability shall go rampant in your body. Either it would kill or will leave you disabled instead.

"That's…" Harland couldn't continue after seeing the look in her face.

"I mean you already promised that you won't send anyone after us once we leave."

Harland gritted his teeth, once he spoke of the promise of the stars, whether directly or indirectly he can't send people after them. Or send people to harm them. Even the people under him who know of his feelings must not do it because they are acting according to his will, which is the same as breaking the promise.

"Come on now, your majesty. I know you don't have the whole day to be entertaining me. Shall we finish this as soon as possible?" Luna urged him.

"Why am I the only one doing it?" Harland asked in gritted teeth.

"I never said I wouldn't promise anything. I will of course promise that I will have all of the recordings in our possession be erased."

"This is an exaggeratedly unfair kind of exchange," he complained.

"Your majesty, I am not the one who needed the promise more. After all, send them our way and we can just retaliate. Killing them is as easy as breathing for us. I wonder how many more adventurers or knights will remain until you can no longer send people to us?"

Harland was lost for words.

"So what do you choose, your majesty?"

He wished to strangle her to death, to kill her right there and then. His face darken and his aura exploded, even those outside could feel it.

"Your-"

*BANG*

The attendant tried to open the door but as he did, it slammed close.

"Go on..."

Luna urged him to attack her while she stood beside the window.

"YOUR MAJESTY!!!!"

The attendant kept banging on the door.

"I WILL CALL FOR-"

"ENOUGH!!! WE ARE STILL DISCUSSING HERE DON'T GO DISTURBING US!!!"

Harland's voice boomed from within, the attendant could only keep quiet.

Luna was no longer smiling either, Harland could not read her. And that irritates him even more.

"Fine," he spatted.

He stood up from his chair and walked towards her.

He only stopped when she took a step back showing him that the distance is enough.

"You know I can't do anything to you," he growled.

"I just don't want to get any closer to you, your majesty. Personal preference."

He squinted his eyes, "You act like I should promise first but how sure am I that you will promise it as well."

Luna smiled at him mockingly, "I am not like you, your majesty. And these recordings? I have no use of them. I just want to give peace to my friends whom you have exploited all this time. The peace of knowing we won't have to keep on killing people once we leave this place."

She emphasized the word killing. She is telling him that they can kill no matter how many he sends to them.

Harland scoffed before taking a deep breath.

Interacting with her more will just irritate him even more.

"I, Harland Morgan Davonius, fifteenth king of Circinus Kingdom, hereby vow to the stars that grants us power. That I shall not put the adventurer group, Astral, in any harm whether directly or indirectly. By breaking this vow I shall forfeit the ability granted upon me."

Small lights surrounded him as he spoke of his vow and these little lights were absorbed in his body after his vow.

This was proof that his vow is now solidified and he has no way of turning back.

"I, Luna of the adventurer group Astral, hereby vow to the stars that grants us power. That I shall erase all recordings in my possession towards the fifteenth king of Circinus Kingdom, king Harland Morgan Davonius. By breaking this vow, I shall forfeit the ability granted upon me."

The same occurrence happened to her, the little lights were absorbed in her body.

"With this, our business is over, your majesty. I shall take my leave now and expect that Astral will leave straight away."

She held on to her imaginary skirt.

She is currently wearing a blue outer attire that has minimal designs other than some small embroideries in the collar, together with black leggings and black boots.

After holding on to her imaginary skirt, she made a curtsy that shocked Harland more than seeing her kneel and bow so properly a while ago.

This curtsy that a woman in a dress would usually have, was done by her in an elegant manner much more elegant than the nobles he had faced in the kingdom.

And this made him think, who is this person?

Meanwhile, seeing the reaction she wanted to see.

The shock of seeing a proper curtsy from the commoner he looks down on.

She smiled and left through the door.

"You-"

"Stop that. She is leaving together with her group. Don't bother with her," he stopped the attendant from doing anything unnecessary.

The attendant sent the guards on standby away before walking towards Harland.

"I shall be sending troupes-"

"I TOLD YOU DON'T DO ANYTHING UNNECESSARY!!!"

The attendant was instantly in fear after being roared upon by him.

He knelt as cold sweat appeared on his forehead and back.

"I apologize to my king. I did not listen to your words properly."

Harland sighed while massaging his temple, "Don't do anything about them. Leave them alone. We made a vow through the promise of the stars."

That was enough for the attendant to know that his king's current command must absolutely be followed.

He must not do anything to the group, Astral.
