Chapter 48 - Episode 48: What's With That Evil Grin?

Maxwell looked around, "It seems you all understood just what kind of situation you are in at this moment."

Ervin gritted his teeth. He had completely forgotten about that. And he was so sure that they could take Spencer down. Yet why did no one tell him that this person is a strong fire ability user?

He was even able to fight toe in toe with his brother.

"Calm down, sir. Aren't I and the knight trainees fine?" Spencer speaks up.

Maxwell looked at him with a frown.

'Why are you defending them? Are you that much of a pushover? He must be thinking like that,' Spencer thought while looking at Maxwell's expression.

"Well, as long as they promise in front of all of you that they will take my training seriously from here on out then we can just leave bygones be bygones," he then said but the glint in his eyes did not escape Maxwell's eyes.

Maxwell squinted his eyes but did not say anything. Instead, he looked at Ervin and the rest.

There is only a hand full of people who can do what Spencer had done just now. Such a strong fire that could let them experience the pain but won't damage them in any way.

This young man is truly someone who can catch the eye of the king, who even ignored the son of one of his loyal dukes.

Archibald is a busy one but he had been looking for someone he could train as a proud fire ability user. Some wished to be one but he is the one who thinks that they are unworthy.

"Will you give your words as knights?" he asked.

"We- We will, sir. We vow to follow the command of the knight trainer," Ervin started.

He has no desire to say otherwise when it comes to Maxwell.

Maxwell was the personal knight of the king, his strength is even higher than the captain of the Gold Royal Knights.

"Do you truly vow with your titles on the line," Maxwell repeated.

As knights, once they bet their titles on the line, they are betting the rest of their lives. It is a vow close to having the promise of the stars.

"I vow with my title on the line."

Each started saying this with difficulty.

But what can they do? Maxwell was the one whom they are facing. How can they still lie?

"What's with that evil grin?"

Spencer looked to his side when someone spoke near him.

He found Eldon and the others squinting their eyes at him.

"What do you mean evil grin?" he acted like nothing.

"It was very much visible in your eyes, how you are enjoying this. You must be planning something," Kyle argued.

"You want to go home already, right? Why are you still here? Do you want me to add more training?"

Kyle suddenly disappeared in front of him, "I'm leaving okay, goodbye."

Spencer was amused, "That kid."

"You are just two years older," Patrick commented.

Spencer simply laughed.

"You guys should go back and rest. You are done for the night," he then added.

"Goodbye then. See you tomorrow."

The three of them turned to leave.

"I'll go now. You all should leave as well. This is not the place for you to interrupt. It is the training ground and he is permitted to train them. Keep that in mind," Maxwell said after a while, about Henry and the other knights under him.

"Yes, sir," Henry answered, looking at his troops and gesturing for them to leave.

He looked back at Ervin and just nodded his head. But his eyes have spoken, be careful with your actions.

Ervin could only swallow his anger.

Who told him to be so negligent with gathering information before attacking?

His brother would surely berate him once he goes home.

When they all left, the rest are also about to disperse.

"Who told you all to leave?" Spencer asked.

They turned with furrowed brows, "The time for training is over."

"But I have not trained you at all," he replied indifferently.

"If you are to get back at them for what they did then don't include us," one of those who simply watched speaks up.

"Don't include you? Of course, I am not."

"Then-"

"But I already told you. You are here to train and because of the interruption, you did not train."

"But those-"

Someone wanted to point at Kyle and the rest but realized that the four of them have trained.

"You did not tell us what to do!!"

"You did not ask," he replied in a matter-of-fact tone.

They could only purse their lips. They can only admit that he was right.

"Now, then... shall we start with some laps around the training ground?" he asked with that same glint that Maxwell has seen in his eyes.

The same one that made Eldon comment that he was having an evil smile.

"100 laps around the training ground followed by 1000 swings of your swords and 1000 thrusts."

Spencer clapped his hands, "Now begin."

They wanted to cry but they just made a vow about it. They can't back down now.

They swallowed their indignance and started doing what he asked them to do.

'Indeed, I have such cute trainees,' Spencer walked back to his favorite spot and leaned on the tree, waiting for all of them to finish.

Though he needed some rest, he couldn't show it here.

He won't let them see any weaknesses in him.

Archibald started laughing after Maxwell returned.

He had tasked Maxwell to go there when he saw the amount of power in the skill he created, Spencer had used.

He just had an all-out sparring with Nicholas this morning. He may still look fine but his body must not be all right. And the skill he used to cancel out the attacks of the others while also letting them experience pain without getting any physical injuries.

He knew that he must have been reaching his limits.

Who would have thought that Henry Bishop was passing by and a sudden bout would happen?

But instead of letting everyone leave for him to rest, he let them stay to "train" them since they didn't get to train because of the interruption.

"This child is becoming more and more amusing as I get to know him more," he added.

Maxwell could only shake his head, the king must have been so bored that he was enjoying this mall matter.

"You must be thinking that it is a small matter," Archibald chuckled."

"But you are wrong. Someone of his age would usually take it slow by not irritating them even more and letting them see what he is capable of. Yet this one was gutsy enough to punish them for the few days that they did not listen to him."

For someone of his age, most of their knight would rather gain more people on their side while showing their strength. But Spencer did not care.

"It means... He is very much confident he could take them on if ever they retaliate again. He is confident of his strength. Only a few would have that."

This group I becoming even more interested in him.

Just like the one training his daughter.

The princess dislikes slowly studying things. She was talented enough to learn things easily and so she became quite conceited that no matter what was taught to her and she would be able to learn it, it doesn't matter if it was taught thoroughly or not.

"How are they?" he asked about his daughter and Aaron.

"Sir Aaron showed repugnance when he first interacted with the princess. He was even adamant about not teaching her flight until she can tell him more about the wind ability."

"You mean the time he run away?"

Maxwell's brows twitched, these people were being punished but instead of being strict with them, the king was very lenient, even having amusement at how they made their choices.

"Yes, your majesty. When he runaway but it seems that the young lady Luna was able to change his mind and now, he is focused on keeping an eye on the princess. She could not even sleep while reading."

Archibald laughed again, "These young ones are truly amusing. It seems that they are here to bring change to our kingdom."

He stepped out of his office again, to look outside his balcony.

From this place, it is not only the training ground that he could see but he could also see a lot of places.

One of which was the place where Luna is trying to let Julian understand what moon abilities are truly capable of.

"Though I wonder if I would still find amusement if that change is already a different one. Something very very different…"

Maxwell followed him out and heard the way he muttered.

He looked to where he was looking but did not comment anything.
