Chapter 13 - Episode 13: Why Didn't We Do Better?

"You are still sick. Settle down for now," Spencer frowned at her words.

"I will just get even more sick if I don't get all of us out of this place."

The rest looked at her in confusion causing her to shake her head.

"You guys have stayed not only because you wanted to investigate the events that happened before. But also, because you are waiting for me to wake up. And here I am now, I am wide awake and I have decided that this place won't give us the answer that we needed."

They had no rebuke.

This was indeed the signal that they are waiting before they leave this forsaken place.

They already tried to look into the past in this kingdom but to no avail. They didn't get anything of importance.

"Then... What are we still going to wait for? They will not stop until we show them that we are not pushovers or until we are gone. You guys have held back long enough. Let me handle this."

She pulled her wrist from Spencer and walked out of the place.

The sound of the door closing was what woke them up from being dazed.

They had long wished to leave this place, it is both nostalgic and nauseating.

The real reason why they didn't really like stepping out of the house.

"Luna!!!" Spencer called out and followed the rest.

They felt like if they didn't stop her, she would instead cause more trouble.

"You guys, seriously. Do you really see me as someone who'd always use her fist to end a problem?" she asked.

She was actually walking slowly as she wanted to see the changes in the kingdom after a thousand years. Though nothing much has changed in the place itself, the people are all far from the people of her memories.

When they reached her, they were looking at her in worry but not for her well-being but the well-being of the others.

Her brows twitched and wished she could hit them all.

How can they think of her as someone barbaric?

And when they simply looked at her after asking what they thought of her, she rolled her eyes and continued walking in a general direction.

Soon, they reached the plaza.

Luna saw some goods and decided to try them.

"Such a delicious fruit juice. It is very much natural," she complimented.

"One day I will surely surpass them."

"The heroes are out of reach even from the greatest of knights, how can you surpass them?" another laughed at the statement of the other.

"You'll see. I'll become stronger than they are."

*PFFT*

The two people who were wearing knight uniforms turned when they heard that sound.

The knight uniforms are red in color with black pants. The buttons were silver and there was an emblem on the left chest, it was that of a lion. As presumptuous as the royal family were they all see themselves as lions who will prey on the other smaller kingdoms.

That Circinus Kingdom is the strongest.

Luna was actually coughing while Preshea was patting her back. Aaron is wiping his face that accepted the natural delicious juice Luna had just spurted out.

The faces of the two people, standing in front of the statues in the center of the plaza, darkened upon seeing their group.

They glared at them before walking away.

It seems that the plan was indeed not known by many, seeing as even the knights did not show any other reaction to them being alive and being here.

Luna, on the other hand, didn't bother with them. Instead, she was actually pointing at the statues in the center of the plaza.

Her eyes bulged, close to popping out of their sockets.

They couldn't paint the way she looks upon seeing the statues.

"WHAT IN THE- AFDHKJSDIHSDIJ!!!"

"Calm down now," Spencer smiled apologetically towards the people who turned to them when she started shouting.

He had covered her mouth before she could continue her sentence.

"Hmmm mmmph mmphhhh…"

She looked at him, she blinked her eyes rapidly asking him to let her go.

"Are you calm?" he asked her.

She nodded her head.

"What is that?" she asked.

Her face was in disbelief while her hand pointed at the statues.

"Statues," Spencer replied.

Though no one could blame her current reaction for they felt the same way when they first saw the statues.

She passed him the mug of juice she was just enjoying a while ago, before stomping towards the statues.

She looked at the plaque and furrowed her brows even more after reading what was on it.

'Citrine, Peridot, Aquamarine, Topaz and Garnet. The five brave heroes who sacrificed their lives in order to end the terror of the demon that caused nightmare to descend upon the land.'

"Aaaahhhh!!!"

She started jumping while rubbing her arms and scratching her back.

People looked at her as if she was going crazy. Spencer and the others walked fast towards her, flashing smiles towards the people before pulling her to the side.

"Come on, Luna. Do you want the people to say that the closed eye silent lady was actually a crazy one once she opens her eyes?" Aaron commented.

He wished he could cover his face.

When they read what was on the plaque, they all simply walked away but they did feel ants crawling in their skins.

It was too cringey.

"My whole body is itchy. How can they write such a cringey thing? Waaahhh!!! I can't believe this. And they even put it in a golden plaque? And those names!!! Those names!!!"

She continued rubbing her arms, she couldn't forgo that cringe feeling after reading what was on it.

"You remember that they asked us to give a name which is not our given ones to add to our so-called tombstones when we die. Thinking that it will never be used anyway or that we will never see it anyway, we played around and gave them those gemstone names," Spencer talked to her.

She looked at him, her face completely scrunched up at the memory of it.

"Why didn't we do better?" she asked.

'All of us were thinking the same way you do,' they all replied in their minds.

How would they know that they'd end up reading those words in commemoration of their work?

Then her movements abruptly stopped.

"What is it?" Aaron asked.

Even her face suddenly turned serious.

"Have they forgotten our looks?" she asked out of nowhere.

"Huh?"

"Well, the statues have no faces."

More like, they have but the details are incomplete no one would know what they truly looked like.

"They said that it couldn't pass the test of time," Preshea replied to her.

"No wonder those knights are praising the statues but they showed hostility towards us. The complete contrast I tell you," she scoffed.

"And no one will believe us even if we looked like those statues," Spencer pushed her forehead with his fore finger.

She rubbed her forehead, "I'm just saying."

She looked back at the center of the plaza.

A melancholic look flashed over her face, "Heroes you say."

The other four looked back as well.

In order to be given the title of heroes, one must defeat a demon.

Demons are the highest dark entity they are to face.

From time to time, demons would appear in the world. And the first ones to actually defeat one was none other than those five being worshiped by so many people.

"They worship the statues while scorning the real ones. Funny how this world works," she lamented.

She shook her head, this is no time to be feeling melancholic over the past.

They have so many things to do for the time being.

To understand why they have been asleep for the past one thousand years, they needed to know why the core of the demon they defeated exploded in the first place.

"Let's go. I am done sightseeing. It is time to see the king in order to be free of this place."

She turned and started walking towards the castle.

The other four followed her but upon reaching the place, the guards stopped them.

"His majesty is too busy to listen to the complaints of mere adventurers," one said in a condescending manner.

"We are not here for complaints, I wonder how you come up with that. There are more movements in the Dark Forest that we are unable to tell the king. Are you trying to stop the king from finding out that danger might be coming to the kingdom?"

The guards were stunned.

They remember this person.

She always had her eyes closed, she also did not speak, instead she just followed along the others.

They did not expect that she would be the one speaking now when all along it was Spencer who was doing that.

Their eyes landed on Spencer while he simply looked at them, standing behind Luna.

They frowned, nevertheless, if it is indeed of importance, and knowing that these adventurers were the ones tasked to look into the Dark Forest. They could not hinder them here.

"Fine. But only one can enter."

"I'll go," Luna presented.

The two guards once again glanced at Spencer but seeing him not reacting, they opened the gate and allowed her in. One guiding her towards the audience room.

"How long do you think before she is out?" Aaron asked Spencer.

They walked towards the garden outside the palace gates.

"Well, if that person won't be stubborn then about ten minutes."
