Chapter 45 - Episode 45: That's Quite A Heavy Sigh For Your Age

If Richard fights fluidly like the water and Aaron fights agilely like the wind.

Then Nicholas could say that the one with an explosive attack is none other Spencer.

He had seen the attacks made by Luna during her mock battle with Owen and he can confidently say that her power is lacking as compared with Spencer.

Spencer does not use speed to attack but instead, he uses strength to attack.

And when he defends, he uses strength to turn it into his own attack.

Just  like now, as he parried a forward attack from Nicholas, he shifted his sword for a bit and by the time Nicholas realized it, the heaviness was no longer coming from him but was instead receiving it.

The positions of the swords slightly changed.

When he attacked, his sword was the one above Spencer's swords but in that slight movement from Spencer, their positions changed.

Spencer raised his leg to kick on his thigh, making a flip in the air, right above them.

The kick was hard enough that Nicholas was unable to move for a second but that was enough time for Spencer to fall back down for another attack.

The positioning of the sword was towards his shoulder.

In time, Nicholas was able to parry it and send him flying back with a kick of his own. The momentum from the flip and him falling to attack, did not give him enough time to defend from Nicholas legs.

His legs were fast enough, faster than Spencer's own kick moments ago.

Though Nicholas was indeed amazed at Spencer's fighting prowess, he could tell that he was still stronger.

About an hour of nonstop clashing of swords, the two finally decided to stop.

"I am amazed," Nicholas said while watching Spencer catch his breath.

"About what? My weakness?" Spencer joked, it really took his everything just so he could keep up with Nicholas in that one hour.

This was even more tiring than when he was training those people for three hours.

"No, you can move like that even though you are injured in your core."

Spencer smiled, "We are following orders from a person who has a loose screw. So we are used to a lot of things."

Nicholas did not get his humor for he did not know their background, he could only furrowed his brows in response while Spencer chuckled.

"But are you not hurt?"

Spencer blinked, not understanding his words.

"I mean, lady Luna ended up in such a state back then."

Spencer showed a look of understanding.

"Luna is our leader. And she is a very responsible one at that. To the point that she'd rather have more injuries than us if needed be."

Nicholas nodded his head in understanding.

"Well, I won't pry anymore. It was nice having a bout with you. I hope I can go against you with your full strength someday."

Spencer agreed readily.

Even though he was no longer as focused on battles as he was before, it was still an enjoyment to him to test his strength against others.

At the same time, it seems that Nicholas realized that even though he was not in the same state as Luna after this bout, he was still unable to pull out his full strength.

'I hope one day I'd get the chance to fight with you as well with all I've got,' he thought while watching Nicholas walk away.

He turned, when Nicholas appeared the person trying to play tricks with him when he was sleeping had also disappeared.

He smirked, it has been so long since he had experienced these kinds of tricks.

When they were just starting on their path to become heroes, they had been bullied left and right.

Their identities weren't the issue, but the fact that most attention was on them even though they were far younger than most of the knights back then, even weaker.

How many times were they beaten up to death?

Most especially Luna, how many times would they meet with her with new wounds on her body?

It was either physical attacks or ability attacks. There are even times where they could not eat or sleep because of those seniors.

It seems they created their own schedules to make sure that the five of them are bullied for twenty-four hours.

So, the attacks coming now did not irritate him at all.

Instead it brought nostalgia to their home time.

He sighed heavily, he is remembering his family again.

His family consists of his parents, an older sister and him.

They were a full fire ability user family.

Just so happens that he has the strongest ability among them.

His mana pool is larger as well.

He and his sister could be considered close. They always confide to one another when they have problems.

Her name was Savannah, with the same black hair and blue eyes. They were sometimes thought of as twins since they really looked alike.

She was two years older than him, sometimes immature but sometimes mature enough that he was able to confide about his feelings for Luna.

She was the one who made him think twice in pursuing Luna.

Not because she did not like her. Savannah likes Luna a lot and she was jumping up and down in joy after finding out that the one he had fallen in love with was Luna.

Just that, she was also well aware of their lives back then.

She was the one who gave him a question to ask himself, 'Will becoming a couple support you more in your battle or will it only end up as a hindrance?'

He thought hard about it.

He can tell that becoming a couple means they have reconfirmed their feelings with one another. That it was already real and that they see each other no longer as comrade but as a lover.

Being comrades, despite having feelings, does not give them the restrictions that being lovers can give.

Thinking about how messy their lives were because of that king who has a loose screw, he came up with his answer.

It is better for them to remain that way.

To be comrades and friends.

Spencer took a deep breath, he was sitting down on the ground while leaning on the tree trunk.

Reminiscing became a part of his daily routine since he has a lot of free time.

"That's quite a heavy sigh for your age."

Spencer's eyes went wide, jumping away from the tree trunk.

He did not feel him approaching.

Nor did he hear anything.

He knew it was not because he was deep in thought but because this person is truly strong.

"Yo- Your majesty. Uhmmm..."

He cleared his throat and calmed his heart.

"I greet the sun of the kingdom, his majesty the king," he gave a proper bow.

"It seems that I have startled you," Archibald replied.

"It was this subject's fault for not paying attention. And the fact that the king is a very strong person. I can barely keep up."

"Enough with the pleasantries," Archibald shook his head.

Spencer found himself smiling.

Harland always wanted for him to keep speaking like this whether they are alone or not. It seems that he got used to it.

"But it is an undeniable fact that his majesty is far stronger than I am," he still said.

Archibald looked at him intently, "How much of your ability can you use?"

Spencer looked up at him in shock, "At the moment, about seventy-five percent of my real strength, your majesty."

Archibald nodded his head.

"I heard from Eldon Lidgett that you are also giving him guidance with his ability. Our abilities are a part of our bodies. Just as we can control the strength of our punch and kick depending on who we are facing, we can also do that with our abilities. The only difference is that our abilities are a wide area of attack, not just a single one. Not to command your fire but to treat it as a part of yourself."

Spencer felt his ears go red, he did not expect for his words to reach the ears of the king.

Archibald actually found it amusing that this child who is seemingly mature would easily get embarrassed.

With a snap of his finger, fire enveloped the entirety of the training ground.

Julian received his moon ability from his grandfather.

While Archibald's ability was fire.

Spencer's breathing hitched, even he could not do that so easily.

He needed to use his whole hand to actually make this, even in his uninjured form.

Another snap and the fire disappeared.

Instead of a complete patch of black, the area only has small patches of black in different places.

Remembering that those are the part with small weeds growing, Spencer was even more astonished.

His control is not as good as this.

"Your majesty..."

Archibald looked down at him.

Spencer turned to him with excitement.

"Can you please accept me as your disciple?"

Even though he wants to stay away from the battlefield, who wouldn't want to become stronger?

Especially when there is a chance of another demon appearing?

He won't back down in that fight.
