Chapter 43 - Episode 43: Love Is Always Complicated

A thousand years ago.

Spencer and Luna were able to understand one another very well.

They spent a lot of time working together on plans and execution.

Amongst the five of them, they were able to work well together.

They would spar to the point where their battles would end with a draw. Their strengths slowly became stronger but at the same time, their bond started to grow deeper.

They reached the point where they knew that they are already in love with one another but the fact that they are in the middle of wars after war and the beasts followed by the demon. They ended up not pursuing it.

They are already fine with the fact that they knew it was mutual.

One would think that they might continue it now that they have woken up.

But, the desire to be with each other actually died down during the battle with the demon and the thousand years of slumber.

Spencer felt strongly worried when it came to her.

Until she woke up and the two of them looked at each other's eyes for the very first time.

There was only one thing.

'I love you but... we are long past the moment of being together.'

Both read that same thought from one another that at this moment, their love remained but they no longer have the desire to be with each other.

Love is always complicated.

When you love someone you would be both scared and happy when it comes to him.

Happy in a way that their small movements will make you laugh, will make your heart flutter.

Scared that maybe it was not meant to be.

You can end up with happiness but you can also end up with pain.

They can love you back and they may not see you the same way.

Sometimes these choices aren't the only choices.

Because sometimes no matter what you feel for one another, you will see that being together is not meant to be.

It might hurt you even more.

Or it might cause a rift on what you already have with just the smallest of things.

Or maybe...

"Our paths have already intersected and now they are running in a parallel line. Without a vision of it ever intersecting again," Spencer said with nostalgia.

Or maybe you missed the opportunity to be with each other and that's just it.

No other explanation.

It just passed.

That is how complicated love can be.

"But you still love her," Eldon couldn't help but to point out.

"I do. I didn't say that I no longer do."

"Does she still love you?" he asked again.

He was like a curious child who couldn't understand why things are happening this way.

Spencer looked at him with a helpless smile.

"She still does. That much I can still tell."

"Then maybe your paths have crossed again."

Spencer shook his head before taking a deep breath.

"It won't."

"How can you say that?"

"Because we are already on the path of moving on."

"Why? I don't get it. You still love each other but you are already moving on without even trying?"

Spencer chuckled before suddenly ruffling his hair.

"Because sometimes, love is no longer enough. When you think about your future, you can no longer imagine yourself being beside her. Then at that moment, love is no longer enough. As for her... I guess she is currently looking for herself. Something she lost in the past."

When his eyes landed on hers after she had woken up.

He realized that the once dream he had of standing by her side till the end, has disappeared.

Maybe because they are now in a different time. They no longer had to think about wars and battles alone. But they can start thinking about their own lives. About what they wanted to do and how they wanted it to turn.

And that's how he knew she was no longer there.

He is already tired of wars as well but when he thought of her, he could only think about standing beside her in wars. To fight with her to the end.

And that's really no longer what he wanted.

No more battles left and right.

Which means, his future has changed for his choice and that includes their future together.

It is no longer the same.

As for Luna.

He knew that she had been missing something since she was a child.

Or more like, she had been keeping a lot of things to herself. Things she could not tell even to him.

But that part is no  longer holding her back.

And this time she started thinking for herself and started living for herself.

She wanted to find more about how she will live now that all shackles are gone. And that also means the shackles of being tied to him in wars and battles.

Just like how he was already tired of it, she wants to step away from it.

But he can tell, she will keep going at it.

It was already engraved in her whole being.

She wanted to find herself without turning her back from the battle.

Because if she really wished to stop, she would not have chosen the bow but instead continue with the sword that she can let go once in battle.

When you fight upfront and it is no longer enough, you don't have to be afraid, you can just run away. To run back to where your groups are, your companions.

But when you play the support, then you will have to continue on supporting the ones returning until they are safe by your side.

While the forefront runs back living behind even their weapons. The ones in the back will continue on holding their weapons until the end.

Luna picked up the bow, a weapon she could no longer let go until her companions were safe.

She will continue fighting even if her companions have stopped.

Right now, she is simply curious about how she will live her life differently than in the past.

Eldon still had the look of confusion in his face.

Spencer placed his arm around his shoulder before rushing him as they were already falling behind.

"Don't think too much about it. We all love differently. You will only understand it once you experience that same type of love that I am trying to tell you."

Luna looked back feeling that there is something going on behind her.

She tilted her head to the side when she noticed that nothing seemed wrong with their expression.

"Move faster!! I am already hungry!!" she instead called out.

Spencer smiled and waved his hand.

He did try to wonder about it, after waking up from the thousand years of slumber.

While he watches her in her sleep.

For two long years, he continued thinking and thinking pondering over what will happen to his feelings and hers now that they are already in a different time.

And he did not come up with any answer.

Instead, he continued floating from one point to another.

He only realized why when his eyes locked on hers.

It is because he can't decide things on his own.

Without understanding what she wants to do. He felt like he can't just let go and leave her hanging.

That is how deep their emotions are connected.

"Maybe, the one who is really supposed to be with you, is that one person whom you can open your heart with completely," he muttered.

"What?" Eldon furrowed his brows.

He was still pondering over his words when he heard him mutter something he did not understand.

"Nothing."

He finally stood up straight, "Walk faster or we will receive her ire once she sees us lagging behind once again."

Despite the years they spent together, he and the rest have an idea that she was also fighting something within her.

Something she couldn't open up to them.

The other three did try to ask him.

They were worried that this might cause her to fall, and he was too. Back then he was truly worried.

But Luna was tight-lipped.

She acted like normal without telling them whether she was truly fine or not.

And they respected it.

He blinked upon this thought.

'Maybe it has started there after all. When I realized that despite the mutual feelings, she still couldn't tell me what it is that truly troubles her. Maybe our paths have started leaving that crosspoint and entering their own way, parallel ones where we can no longer intersect.'

He shook his head.

If he had realized this back then, maybe he would have been greatly hurt and discouraged.

But now, after understanding that they had long passed the time of being with one another, he no longer feels as painful.

It is a sad one that is why it is painful, that she can't really open up to them.

'Someday I wish, you can let go of that burden. Even if it's not with us.'
